Palais Princier de Monaco
Palais Princier de Monaco – The Royal Residence of the Grimaldi Family
Standing majestically atop Le Rocher (The Rock of Monaco), the Palais Princier de Monaco is the official residence of the Prince of Monaco and a symbol of the principality’s rich history and royal heritage. Originally built as a Genoese fortress in 1191, the palace has been home to the Grimaldi dynasty for over 700 years, evolving into one of the most remarkable landmarks in Monaco.
Each year, visitors have the rare opportunity to step inside this historic palace and explore its lavish State Apartments, adorned with Renaissance frescoes, intricate tapestries, and stunning artwork. Highlights include the Mirror Gallery, inspired by the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles, the Palatine Chapel, and the Throne Room, where official royal ceremonies take place.
Outside the palace, the Changing of the Guard ceremony, performed daily at 11:55 AM by the Carabiniers du Prince, is a must-see tradition that reflects Monaco’s enduring royal customs.
With breathtaking views of the Mediterranean, the Palais Princier is not just a royal residence—it is a living testament to Monaco’s history, blending medieval grandeur with modern elegance.
