A Voice That Felt Like It Had Always Belonged to the American Bar
Title: Where Monaco Never Really Left the Room
There are places that serve drinks, and then there are places that keep time.
The American Bar – Hôtel de Paris does the latter.
Step inside and you feel it immediately — the weight of history, the hush of velvet conversations, the sense that something important once happened here… and might again tonight. The room wears its age not as nostalgia, but as authority. Timeless class. The kind you don’t try to recreate — you either have it, or you don’t.
The characters arrive without introduction.
A discreet banker nursing a martini, eyes on the room rather than his phone.
A woman in silk who knows everyone and explains nothing.
A familiar local couple who’ve been coming here longer than most bars have existed.
This is Monaco as it really is — elegant, unhurried, quietly theatrical.
The team complete the illusion. Many have been here forever, and it shows. There’s no script, no forced charm — just familiarity, confidence, and that rare feeling of being welcomed into something already established. You’re not a customer; you’re part of the scene.
And then the music starts.
Live bands, every night. Not background noise — performances. Jazz one evening, classics the next, then pop, standards, and floor fillers that somehow feel right even in a room like this. The acts rotate, the mood shifts, but the soul stays exactly where it should be.
Tonight, the room belonged to Alexandra Miller.
She appeared the way great singers used to — without announcement, without effort — and within moments the atmosphere shifted. A fiery redhead, striking but never showy, she carried herself with the confidence of someone who understands the room before the room understands her. There was something unmistakably from another era about her presence.
She chose the difficult songs. The ones that expose a voice, not flatter it. The kind that separate performers from singers. And she delivered them with precision and ease, every note placed exactly where it should be. No over-singing. No indulgence. Just control, timing, and depth.
There was a trace of Lauren Bacall in her poise — that cool, knowing confidence — and a hint of Peggy Lee in the way she let the silence work for her. She didn’t chase the audience; she let them come to her. And they did.
The band followed her instinctively, as if this was a set they had played a hundred times together. Conversations faded, glasses paused, and the room settled into that rare collective focus that only happens when something authentic is unfolding.
For one evening, the American Bar felt even more timeless than usual. Alexandra Miller didn’t just perform — she belonged there, as if she had always been part of its story.
If Casablanca had been set on the Riviera, this is where the piano would be.
A place with memory, music, and meaning.
Monaco wouldn’t be Monaco without it.

Thank you to tiziana and his team (Claudio, Massimo, Max, Lorenzo) the chef who is listening and bartending, always a Good Welcoming and a Good Quality of Service despite the large flow that there can be in the afternoon.

Disappointment
In the videos, everything looks luxurious and grand! In reality, it’s quite different. The entrance is beautiful, but the café is old, with furniture that looks like it’s from the last century. The food isn’t tasty at all we had pasta! From high expectations to disappointment.

Rude waiter
This used to be such a nice place but now the staff have changed and the waiter is just rude. Coffee cold. Won’t be back and I live 5 minutes away.

Nice place to stop for a cup of coffee or tea. I appreciate the choices they have. I think they need to improve on seating arrangements to draw in more people.
Service could improve. Haven't felt welcomed when entering the establishment. No one greets you or seem happy to serve.
Prices are reasonable and bakery goods are good.

Not as good as expected.
The coffee was cold and expensive. An extra 50 cent charge for decaf! Not as nice as the reviews led me to believe. Disappointed.

This place has a chill layback dining area. Ordering took a while because of the system. As first timers it felt a little complicated and overwhelming. Can’t really say much about the customer service experience. The workers were nice but not really attentive. Ordered the mini pancakes with strawberry, banana and Nutella topped with whipped cream. Super tasty and delicious. Next item was the chicken sandwich with a spinach salad on the side . Chicken was flavorful , cut up into tiny pieces. Although I think it would have been better if the chicken was a flat patty or chicken breast. Definitely recommend this place for the drinks. The horchata latte and Aztec chocolate latte hit the spot 👍

I've only had coffee, and I definitely recommend a cup of coffee. The guy making the drinks should be more cheerful, he's too quiet. Great atmosphere 👌

I loved all the customization options and the flavor was great! There's a ton of shopping options in the plaza, so definitely grab a cup and enjoy while shopping. Definitely will be back.

Usually, I don't write reviews. Unfortunately, this establishment stole my money. After I ordered my food and was paid as a responsible customer at the counter, patiently waiting for over 45 minutes, I was met by an annoyed and rude supervisor instead of receiving my order. Additionally, the females were rude; after questioning what I ordered and insulting my intelligence, I asked the supervisor to have a nice! Your establishment needs an overall customer service skills course because if you don't care for customers, your customers will resent your establishment. As for my money, please keep it; consider it a donation for your staff's customer skills class implementation!

This place is a cute little stop. Has books avaible to read and and a cute photo op spot. All the items looked delicious! I wanted sowmthing simple and when for the banana shake. It's not too sweet which is great. My picture doesn't show the chocolate sauce but it's there. The person at the counter was very sweet and had pretty awesome tattoos. They were quick on our orders and very polite.

I usually make my own coffee, but sometimes it’s nice treat myself to one. My husband had iced tea,and I had regular coffee. they were both delicious.

The place looks nice but the food and coffee was missing flavor. They need to brush up on electrical safety since they were trying to fix an electrical component at the entrance and allowed costumers to continue to pass through while electric spark fell. Respectfully good place hope it improves.

The service was great, the cashier had a great attitude and that is the good part of this review. The food when we were told it was ready was cold. We order waffles, crepe and a sandwich. The waffles were cold the crepe was alright and the roast beef sandwich was cold too. The bread on the sandwich was great the roast beef was so chewy it felt like biting a tire. Also the selection of music is great gives it a good vibe environment but the music was too loud. Even with all this I will still give them a second chance if they rectify their shortcomings

Good food, reasonable prices, friendly staff. My only suggestion is changing the music to Jazz or something more soothing. The music doesn't go with the atmosphere, specially when lyrics contain profanity.

I finally found a great place to go get crepes at. Casa de Cafe is located at the Quad in Whittier. They offered one of the friendliest services I’ve encountered at a café. The crepe I ordered was Nutella. The crepe already includes strawberries, bananas, and whip cream. It was big enough to share with three people. Also, I definitely recommend ordering a peach passion tea ( half sweetened). Now that I am aware this place exists at the Quad, I’ll definitely be coming back often .
