My recent stay at the Riviera Marriott Hotel La Porte de Monaco for one night was quite disappointing. The staff throughout the hotel was actually quite friendly, and the restaurant had both a charming atmosphere and friendly service. While the food was average, it was reasonably priced, so expectations were met. Unfortunately, the room itself was a disaster. The walls were so thin that every sound from the bathroom and hallway was impossible to ignore. The entire room felt outdated and badly in need of renovation, offering no comfort or coziness whatsoever. Both the bathroom and the rest of the room were in poor condition. The lighting was insufficient, and the curtains were inadequate, allowing light in during the morning, which affected sleep quality. The bed was okay but a bit squeaky. Despite the presence of a balcony, smoking was prohibited, which is very odd and should have been made clearer and communicated beforehand. The shower was the only decent aspect. Considering the price tag of over 500 EUR per night (during the off-season but coinciding with a nearby tennis tournament), and it being a 4-star hotel, this stay was a complete disappointment. I regret not spending 300 EUR more for a genuinely good hotel, but I didn’t expect it to be this bad. I’m giving 2 stars overall, mostly thanks to the friendly staff and the decent restaurant. But the room experience alone was worth just 1 star — and that’s ultimately what matters most when you’re paying over 500 EUR per night.

A very nice hotel right at the entrance to Monaco. Definitely worth the money and enjoyed our stay very much.

Warning. Do not enter this hotel. Do not unless you want to be swiftly disappointed. This place is a Marriott??? I woke up with bug bites all over my face. The smoke alarms on our floor chirped in several areas all day and night. Want to get food or beverage at the restaurant? Nope. Three people working actually doing nothing wouldn’t even look at us. It’s dirty. Filthy! The area is depressing. The beach? You have to walk across weird roads and gravel trenches. They didn’t even know what beach was advertised on the site. I had to show the managers my skin welts for them to consider allowing us to check out early. Thankfully, I have lived in the area before and I was able to make arrangements elsewhere but our family trip would have been a fortune and disaster if I didn’t know the ropes in the area. Marriott should quickly remove their letters from the hotel. They say they are independently run from Marriott and they do not have to abide by their rules of reservations.

Update Aug 15, 2024: I had an outreach from a Senior Guest Relations Supervisor & finally we had some resolution to the issues. This person listened, understood & made steps to repair some of the problems. It was appreciated & well received. Have given 3 stars for the rooms, but they need to be improved before next summer. To say this place was a disgrace is perhaps a stretch, but most assuredly the worst ever stay at a marriott anywhere in the world. Which is crazy given the attitude & the service standards for a 5 night stay. Those with the most authority were the most dismissive & the regular staff were the absolute best & a credit to themselves. Now the rooms, whilst weather is out of our control you would imagine temperature of rooms are less so. Whilst attempts were made to help (mobile units) it was only after protest & rooms were barely tolerable, by no means comfortable. If we could have, we would have gone home early. Aside from that, the cleaners were amazing, the rooms well appointed & room service exceptional. But my wife & I would strongly recommend never staying here, we won't be doing so next year.

This disgraceful hotel is nothing more than embersement to the Marriott brand.
||||The reserved room was king bed, but I received twin bed. Placing two beds along each other doesn’t magically make them a single bed.||||The AC in both the room and gym did not work, and I was there in August, when it can’t get anymore hot and humid. ||||The food was contaminated as the whole breakfast buffet full of flies and the coffee machine was full of ants. Simply disgusting and non of the staff does anything.||||I was asked by the front desk to settle extra charge for laundry in the amount of 280 EUR. I asked to verify with my bank that the card was indeed not charged yet. In response the hotel blocked my room card so that I won’t be able to access my room until I settle the payment. The hotel refused to let me spend the night in the room I pre-paid for more then 500 EUR/Night, because an unpaid extra charge of 280 EUR, which I have asked to check with my bank before I’m paying. I’ve stayed in hotels at third-world countries and that is something I have never experienced and will never forget.||||After checking out, the hotel refused to credit me nights & points. These credited only after I have made a complaint to the Bonvoy team.||||I have stayed there for business just because they were the only available option in the area at the time, but this is without a doubt the WORST hotel I have ever stayed and the Marriott should be aware of it. Especially the decision to block guest’s room card, for a room he pre-paid for, which is decision on the verge of criminal.

This hotel is exceptional! The hotel is technically in France, but is steps away from Monaco. Is it located right on the beautiful Port de Cap-d’Ail. The views from the higher floors are stunning. It is easily walkable to the local beach, as well as to the heart of Monaco! Be warned though, there are some significant hills in Monaco, so it may be easier for most people to take a cab. Ordering a cab was not a problem at all. The lovely people at the concierge desk helped us arrange transportation to dinner, and then to the train station the next day. The rooms are clean and stylish. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant, but the bar had a nice selection of local wines. If we’re ever in Monaco again, we will absolutely stay here!!
