Monte Carlo Travel

The first event on Wednesday, July 17th, kicks off a series of meetings and walks along the Via Julia Augusta, organized by the Civic Archaeological Museum “Girolamo Rossi”, which hosts the Alcotra information point on this ancient route.

In honor of the 106th anniversary of Clarence Bicknell’s peaceful passing in Casterino on July 17, 1918, the Museum, the Intemelia Section, and the Sanremo Section of ISL are organizing a journey through the Val Roia paths towards the Tenda Museum. Participants will be greeted by director Silvia Sandrone and the Museum team, who have long partnered with the MAR of Ventimiglia. The historical section beneath the Forte dell’Annunziata terrace dedicates ample space to the Roia Valley and the Valley of Wonders.

Following the visit, participants will have free time for lunch before continuing to Briga to visit the Our Lady of the Fountains chapel. This chapel, built on a pre-Christian worship site at the crossroads of routes connecting the Nervia Valley, Roia Valley, and Lower Piedmont, was frescoed by Canavesio in 1492.
