MONACO DANCE FORUM – DIPTYCH

As the lights come up, the audience is drawn into the mind of a man whose life unravels like a film—or perhaps it’s a montage of other lives, some from the past, others yet to come. Set in the cabins and hallways of an ocean liner, *Diptych* embarks on a complex journey through time, memory, and premonition. The ballet explores the illusions, utopias, and lost loves of characters who are blinded by their own fictions. At every turn, they are swept away by forces beyond their control, adrift in their search for meaning.

LAST WORK

Ohad Naharin’s Last Work pulses with energy and density, yet carries an aura of ephemerality—a moment of clarity and reflection in the eye of a storm. Throughout the entire 60-minute performance, an unperturbed figure runs endlessly in the background, appearing to flee or dream, yet never leaving the spot. Is it a symbol of the will to move forward? Meanwhile, eighteen other dancers fill the stage with the signature movement language of the Batsheva Dance Company: sprawling bodies, deep fissures, and echoes of traditional Israeli dance, like the circular hora. Despite its dynamic choreography, Last Work is defined by a meditative tension, a hushed calm beneath the surface.

The electronic sounds of German DJ Grischa Lichtenberger provide a backdrop of constantly repeating patterns, allowing the dance to expand in the moment. Fast-paced group formations stand in contrast to solitary bodies, with contact between dancers seeming more instinctual than deliberate. In Last Work, Naharin crafts a reflective world that, while calm, is filled with physical intensity. The moment itself feels as if it holds eternity.

EYAL – MAILLOT (15 December)

To the pulse of techno music that feels like a ticking clock, dancers transform into fauns on demi-pointes, delivering a dance so raw and visceral it becomes almost intimidating. Sharon Eyal’s choreography is known for its intense physicality, and Autodance is no exception. Every ounce of energy is extracted and wrung out from the body, allowing movement to emerge—movement that tells no story but comes from deep within, from the secrets of the belly, hollowing the abdomen, spreading the pelvis, stiffening the legs, and discharging before us in an expression of animalistic poetry.

Set to the frenetic music of John Adams, Vers un Pays Sage leaves little room for rest. This ballet pushes dancers to their limits, demanding they surpass themselves artistically in twenty-eight minutes of rare intensity. Jean-Christophe Maillot eliminates all dead time, as a way of celebrating life, much like his father, Jean Maillot, who expended a boundless amount of energy in its pursuit. His passing raises the question: is it better to live cautiously, or to indulge in life’s excesses? Vers un Pays Sage is an ode to Jean Maillot’s insatiable appetite for life.

MADE IN OSLO

For over three decades, Oslo Danse Ensemble was Norway’s most beloved dance company. Yet, ironically, it never performed abroad. When the company closed in 2018, a question emerged: how can we expect the world to understand our national culture if we keep it hidden? Jo Strømgren Kompani has risen to the challenge, presenting a triple bill of Jo Strømgren’s works originally created for the company: Gone (2015), The Ring (2014), and Kvart (2007). Each piece explores its own theme, offering a unique perspective on contemporary life.

THEATRE PRINCESSE GRACE – LA NOTE

Walk away without even leaving a goodbye note? That’s exactly what Julien intended, and Maud won’t forgive him. He’s a renowned psychoanalyst, she’s a celebrated pianist, and now, they’re forced to confront their lives and relationship. Through moments of anger and humor, their intimate confessions flow like a final attempt to make sense of it all. A night to part ways or to fall in love again. A night to redefine their fate.

Written and directed by Audrey Schebat, this play delves into Julien and Maud’s reflection on their thirty years together. Beneath its seemingly light tone, the play explores themes of love, time, and lost dreams, offering a bittersweet yet hopeful portrait of a couple at a crossroads.

Free and open to all

As part of the 33rd edition of the Olympic Games, the Principality of Monaco is pleased to invite you to an unprecedented celebration of sport.

Starting July 18, delve into the fascinating world of the Olympics through an exclusive exhibition featuring the private collection of Olympic torches belonging to H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.

This exhibition will take you on a journey through time, highlighting the history of the Olympic flame relay, embodying the spirit of peace, friendship, and fraternity that defines the Olympic movement. From Berlin 1936 to Paris 2024, each torch tells a unique story, marked by innovation and aesthetic excellence. These objects are not only technological marvels designed to withstand the elements but also works of art symbolizing the cultures of the host nations.

A Family Legacy

The personal collection of Olympic torches from H.S.H. Prince Albert II pays tribute to the princely family of Monaco’s Olympic heritage. From the illustrious John B. Kelly Sr., Prince Albert II’s maternal grandfather, who won gold in rowing at the 1920 and 1924 Games, to the Olympic participations of Princess Charlene and Prince Albert II himself, this exhibition celebrates a family’s passion for sport, passed down through generations.

Curated by Frédéric Genin

The exhibition, made possible by the commitment of the Monaco Olympic Committee and the Grimaldi Forum Monaco, features the creative vision of architect Frédéric Genin. The scenography is distinguished by two parallel lines representing the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, highlighting the 40 torches on display. Each torch, a masterpiece of engineering, reflects the innovation and aesthetics of its time and the host country of the Olympic Games.

Security & Cloakroom: All visitors are required to undergo security checks. We recommend not bringing bulky items to the exhibition.
