Amazing experience from the moment I made the reservation through the quick delivery process of the car. The vehicle was brand Nouveau and in mint condition. Welcome to “Surprise Pricing: The Experience”
I made a reservation online at a perfectly reasonable Prix and showed up thinking I was… renting a car. Rookie mistake.
Immediately, I was informed—by someone clearly auditioning for Most Condescending Tone of the Year—that despite having valid non-owner’s insurance, I would be required to buy theirs for $38 per day. Apparently insurance only counts if they sell it to you.
Next plot twist: my company debit card, which works everywhere else in the modern world, was suddenly unacceptable. This detail was never mentioned during the reservation, but surprises seem to be the theme here.
Now for the math lesson:
Original quote: $271 for the week
Final “total”: $989 for the week
Vehicle: a Camry that has clearly lived a full and emotionally challenging life
Almost $1,000 for a Camry that looked like it should qualify for a senior discount. At that point I assumed it was a collector’s item. It was not.
I declined the opportunity to be financially humbled and went to Budget, where I rented a Tesla the same day. No attitude. No forced add-ons. Same card accepted without hesitation.
$294 total.

Absolutely terrible experience. I’ve rented Automobiles all over the world and I’ve never seen anything like this. Elite Rent-A-Car added a completely random $150 “vaping charge” and claimed they have a “machine that detects how many times” someone vapes inside the car.
Let me be clear:
No rental vehicle has a device that can count vape usage.
It’s scientifically impossible and feels like a made-up excuse to charge extra fees.
When I returned the car, everything was perfectly clean and there was no smell at all. Instead of showing any proof or transparency, the staff just repeated the same story about their “machine.”
This feels like a scammy add-on fee, nothing more.
No email to contact, no proper customer support, nothing. Just a charge and a made-up explanation. I had to track down their contact info myself just to dispute something that never even happened.
I strongly recommend avoiding this company unless you want to be surprised with random charges and zero accountability.
