For sale: Land Rover® Series 3 Ragtop in Mid Grey (1978).

We are delighted to present for sale this 1978 Land Rover® Series 3, presented in the popular Mid-Grey colour scheme, with Limestone Wheels & Sand Canvas with Side Windows.

Externally, it is nice to note that this Series 3 has a very “Stock” feel to it – with the only notable addition being larger mirrors for better visibility whilst driving, and the uprated canvas to include side windows, which improve visibility for the driver. The rest of the period features one would hope to see are present – the vintage number plates and rear grab handles, for example. In our opinion, we really love the look of this Series 3 – and based on the public reaction on our test route, they agree too.

On the inside, the standard affair continues, with a set of dark grey standard seats, with deluxe matting to the footwells. Other than that, she is exactly as per the photos – the rear is unfitted and could house bench seats for £595 to bring seating to seven people including the driver, if so desired. The canvas having side windows not only makes the drivers’ life easier when checking blindspots, but also creates a light and airy cabin to blast along in… shades on and windows open, with the back rolled up as photo’d.

Out on the road, there have been some additions to the period set up to make things easier – the uprated Weber Carburettor for additional power over standard, and the Michelin cross-climate “Latitude” tyres which give the best compromise between road holding and off road ability, extending the gearing and giving a more relaxed cruise when at speed, which is most welcome. Servo brakes mean it stops well too.

In summary then, if you are looking for a “Stock” Series 3 which is ready to enjoy this summer, then this could be for you. With the added bonus’ of MOT & Tax Exemption, alongside Classic Insurance, it should not only prove cost-effective to run, but also with that head-turning colour scheme, it is sure to be a talking point at the local pub, look the part on the seafront for an ice cream, or even at a classic show or around the farm/allotments.
