Francisco Tropa – Paesine
Exhibition Dates: December 2024 – April 2025
Experience a captivating exploration of sculpture, perception, and the essence of imagery with “Francisco Tropa – Paesine,” a monographic exhibition presented by the NMNM at Villa Paloma.
Event Highlights:
- Unveiling Unseen Creations: Delve into the world of Portuguese artist Francisco Tropa as he unveils a previously unseen selection of sculptures, drawings, films, and light projections, specially conceived for Villa Paloma.
- Inspired by Nature: The exhibition draws inspiration from pietre paesine (imaged stones), exploring the boundary between figuration and abstraction and highlighting the analogy between nature and technique.
- Reinterpreting Sculptural Origins: With a touch of humor and delicacy, Tropa reinterprets the origins of sculpture and its formal vocabulary, blending elements from prehistoric Venuses, classical Pietà, and minimalist works of the last century.
- Anarchaeology and Deconstruction: Through the concept of “anarchaeology,” the exhibition challenges historical narratives and deconstructs the museum space, transforming it into a platonic cave where perception and reality intertwine.
- Total Sculptural Experience: Encounter ambiguous materials and images of unfathomable depth, inviting you to engage in a total experience of sculpture, from its material forms to its symbolic projections.
Collaboration and Publication: Organized in collaboration with the Serralves Foundation in Porto, this monographic exhibition offers a multifaceted exploration of Francisco Tropa’s work. A publication accompanying both exhibitions will be released in autumn 2024.
Embark on a thought-provoking journey through the artistic vision of Francisco Tropa and immerse yourself in the captivating world of “Paesine” at Villa Paloma.
